Dilini Wikenayaka is the latest Industry Connect graduate to find a job as a Test Analyst. We caught up with her to ask about her time with us and if she had any advice for people in the same situation.

Congratulations on your new job as a test analyst Dilini! Please tell us, what was your background before joining Industry Connect?

Back in Sri Lanka I had four years experience as a test analyst, and then I moved to New Zealand in 2016. For the next two years I had a gap in work, which is why I thought to join Industry Connect. Kumar helped me a lot with the theory sessions, but then I got pregnant, so I had to quit!

Almost another two years later I asked Ray if I could join again and he said yes, so here I am back!

I wanted to join you guys because of the big gap in my career and because I had no local experience in New Zealand, so yeah, now looking back, I made the right decision!

You certainly did! Which part did you like the most during your internship?

Definietly the sessions. The eon test sessions, Ray’s sessions, and the tech chit chat sessions… everything was really helpful, especially the test sessions when I was in my job search process. I got a lot of knowledge from the tech chit chat sessions, even though I didn’t join them live. I would record them and watch them back and they were really helpful to me.

What would you suggest to others?

I would like to say don’t give up. Keep “refreshing” yourself, even if you’re not working, keep refreshing your knowledge.

We are doing everything by ourselves and it’s a really good learning curve. Because I have a really big gap in my knowledge, in some parts was disconnected, so this was a really great bridge for me to learn more.
