Once again one of our programme graduates has gone on to land a job in the IT sector! Bhanu has just secured a position as a BI Developer, and before she set off on her new career, we sat down to ask her about her time with Industry Connect.

Firstly, congratulations on your new job. Would you like to tell us about your background before you came here to Industry Connect?

I had completed my post-graduate diploma at Unitech, and I was also working as a software developer, but I wanted a better understanding of BI, so I joined Industry Connect. I joined the BI developer job-ready programme, and it wasn’t long before I secured a job with the AHDB (Auckland Health District Board).

So you were looking for a new set of skills, switching from developer to BI?

Yes, I wanted to make the switch because I wanted something new to learn, I wanted to join BI.

And do you think it helped coming to Industry Connect?

Yeah, it definitely helped me, because I learned a lot of new skills, new tools, so yeah, I learned a lot, and it definitely helped me.

So even if you’ve got previous experience, there’s always a lot to learn.

Yes, exactly.

And of course, we also try and cover the soft skills side of things here at Industry Connect, so how did you find that?

It was really good because we had the interaction with our lecturer which I really enjoyed, so it was more of a boost up for me.

And lastly, have you got any advice for anyone else in the same position you were in? Maybe someone wanting to find their first job or make a career change? What would you tell them?

I would definitely tell people to join Industry Connect because it will give you a new start. It is a great, great platform for experience. It will definitely make you more confident, make you learn more skills, more technology, and give you more opportunity. You should join Industry Connect and give it a try.
