Another day, another Industry Connect success story!

After only 7 months in the country, Aubrey has just landed her first software developer job in New Zealand thanks to our job-ready course. Before she left us, we sat down with her to chat about her experience with Industry Connect.

First of all Aubrey, congratulations on your very first software developer job in New Zealand! You’ve got a bit of a story or how you came to New Zealand. Can you tell us a bit about your background, and how you actually come to know about Industry Connect?

I came from the Philippines seven months ago, and I have my degree from there in Information Technology, along with three years experience in IT industry. So, yeah, my partner came across Industry Connect on Facebook and after that I decided to join.

It’s been a pretty fast journey! From doing a six-week software developer job reading program, and then six months into my internship and I got my first software developer job in New Zealand.

Tell us how Industry Connect helped you to get to where you are today.

Well, firstly, I think the environment here is very helpful, the people here encourage you a lot, so it helped me become very confident when it comes to my interviews.

And you use the industry connect app to help you as well… tell everyone how that’s helped you.

Firstly, I used the CV template that was uploaded there, and then I’ve read a lot of articles which I found really helpful with my interviews. And then there are challenge questions also in the app, so technically it helped me and also my soft skills. I wasn’t very confident, but now I can come out of my shell.

So Aubrey, if you had a friend or someone you knew and they’re finding it hard to get their foot in the door of the IT market what would you tell them about Industry Connect?

Of course I would recommend them to join Industry Connect, because if you don’t have local experience here in New Zealand, it will be really hard for you to get an interview.
