Fitz from Philippines has just secured his first developer job in Auckland. He shared his story with his experience of the Software Job Ready Programme at Industry Connect.

Congratulations Fitz, we’re so very, very happy for you landing your first developer job in Auckland. You’ve come a long way with us and you’ve had a bit of a journey… can you just share with everyone how you came to be with Industry Connect?

After landing here in New Zealand I took a one-year course, similar to ones back home. I already had experience as a software engineer back home with a C# background – I did a 4 year course – so after coming here I wanted to diversify my portfolio and go into web development. After taking the course my friends recommended Industry Connect to me, so I looked into it and I was really happy it was a web development course. After that I didn’t hesitate, I joined the course in May and started my internship in July.

That’s awesome, so it didn’t take very long really. There are a lot of people in the same boat you were in, so what would you say to someone who was looking to get into the IT market?  We know you had a hard time getting your foot in the door when it came to job interviews?

After I finished my course I started to look for jobs for maybe a month and it didn’t really go well for me. I didn’t have any local references or local experiences that I could put into my CV. I was really worried about that but then Industry Connect came to light. They offered commercial experience, and due to that, it really speed up finding a job. When I was applying for a job, I was able put references into my CV that are required by all employers and then after a few months I got a job.

Well congratulations again Fitz, we know that you’re going to be such an asset in the company that you’re going to be working for.
