Chanuri came to New Zealand from Sri Lanka only 5 short months ago, and with our help she’s already landed a job as a senior software developer.

“My first few months here I spent my time job hunting,” Chanuri told us, “but I realised I wasn’t getting any interviews, so that’s when I joined Industry Connect.”

“After coming here I improved a lot, in not only technical skills, but in soft skills as well. There are plenty of resources here to use, and I used them, such as the Industry Connect App. It was very useful, and I got highest marks on that, so I posted some comments and questions.

“I always read the articles, and those were very useful, every word in that article was very helpful, and they are the reason behind my success. They also taught me how to handle an interview, and how to build up my CV, which was my weakness, but I improved.

“I turned my weaknesses into strengths by reading the article, and not just once; every day I would go back and ready it, especially if I forgot something, it was always there for me.

“After I worked here as an intern, I got the opportunity to work on a live project, and also get the “New Zealand experience” – working in a different culture with different people, so that was very useful.

“My team leader was very helpful, I could always go ask some technical questions and they were always there to help us.

“I’ve already recommended Industry Connect to my friends back home, but for anyone I would say come and try things first, and join Industry Connect. You will learn a lot, especially how to market yourself. You can speed up the process.
