“When I came to New Zealand I felt lost and I didn’t know which way I should go.”
We get a lot of International Students here at Industry Connect, many of whom arrive from China with basic English, few friends, and no local experience.
It’s a tough situation to be in, but we can help with all of it!
Joining us isn’t just learning new IT skills, it’s also a way of meeting people and making friends.
Jacqui is one of our recent graduates who experienced life at Industry Connect and came out with a job at the end, so we caught up with her before she started on her new career.
How did you feel when you got your first job as a BI Analyst?
I’m very excited and actually I can’t believe it! I don’t have many years with commercial experience, I came from China and I’ve only been in New Zealand for two years, so I think that getting a full-time permanent offer is really surprising to me.
What would you like to share with us about your experience here?
After I finish my studies at Industry Connect, I started my internship with MVP. I went through the projects, and I got lots of experience with commercial projects.
I can build a BI project from scratch, from SQL from data warehouse, and data visualisation. I think this is a good place, it’s like a talent incubator for everyone to get commercial experience, and that’s very good.
Would you recommend Industry Connect to everyone?
Definitely I would recommend Industry Connect, because I don’t have much experience in China, so when I came to New Zealand I felt lost and I didn’t know which way I should go. I wasn’t familiar with the local market, and I wasn’t familiar with which local technology was popular here.
So that’s why I recommend to others to go to Industry Connect, because they will help you get familiar with every technology that is popular with the companies here. After you know all this, you can get commercial project experience and that’s very good.
Well thank you Jacqui, and congratulations again on your new job as a BI Analyst!
