Bushan came to Industry Connect with some experience as a manual tester in India.
He shares about his experience being interviewed for the job that he secured and what he learnt along the way in preparing himself to be Job Ready for the IT Software Market.
What experience would you like to share with everyone?
When I joined the internship after completing the 6 Week Test Analyst Job Ready Programme, I realised that with the tasks that were given to me I needed to treat it like I was in a real job because the internship is “real world” experience. It helped to prepare me for my interview and working in a real Test Analyst job.
When it came to my interview and was asked “what have you been doing” then I could explain clearly and in detail.
The Interview
I had two rounds of interviews. The first round was questions like, “Tell me about yourself”, “What tools have you been using” and “What experience have you had”. Even though I had some experience in India they weren’t interested in it and were interested in what experience I had here in New Zealand.
In the second round, I did some behavioural and scenario questions relating back to my experience within the Internship.
I think that the people that interviewed me saw that I am able to find a solution to a problem and able to think outside the square.
How did Industry Connect help you secure your job?
The way of communicating and how people explain what they are doing helped me a lot. Apart from the technical side of things, the workshops at the internship like “Public Speaking and Communication”, “English at Work”, “Life Skills”, “Tech Chit Chat” was also a big help to prepare me.
Would you recommend Industry Connect to everyone?
Yes definitely. They should do it as soon as possible because the process works with the Job Ready Programme and the Internship.
